One of the key strategies in our current Strategic Plan 2022-25 is to 'Promote the empowerment of Aboriginal people'. This is supported by our ‘Stretch’ Reconciliation Action Plan.
We recognise Aboriginal peoples as unique among all Australians in their ancient sovereignty over this land and its waters. We believe that reconciliation is the responsibility of modern Australia in acknowledging the historical context of injustice. We believe the biggest impact we can have to drive better outcomes for Aboriginal people is through ensuring our services are culturally appropriate, partnering with Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations (‘ACCOs’) and supporting Aboriginal employment.
Aboriginal Advisory Group
Anglicare WA has had an Elders Council (previously Aboriginal Reference Group) for 17 years. In the context of our new Strategic Plan and our latest RAP, this group has evolved into an Aboriginal Advisory Group (AAG). The Terms of Reference for the AAG are available below.
The AAG assists Anglicare WA to break new ground in our relationships with and services to Aboriginal people and communities across Western Australia. It provides advice and guidance to the CEO and Executive of Anglicare WA in relation to strengthening
relationships with ACCOs, progressing our RAP and providing feedback on our policies, services and advocacy priorities.
