Anglicare WA’s housing services are on the frontlines providing housing support to some of the most vulnerable members of our community, and Homelessness Week provides a critical opportunity to not only highlight this important work, but also to advocate for systems change.

Occurring in the first week of August, and coordinated by Homelessness Australia, Homelessness Week is a national annual event that raises awareness about the impact of homelessness and the solutions needed to end it.  The week sees homelessness services and community groups educate the community and advocate for change through national and local community events, media, and social media activities.

In 2024, Homelessness Week will run from Monday 5 August to Sunday 11 August.  This year’s theme is ‘Homelessness Action Now’, and in the midst of one of the worst housing crises, it is more important than ever that we take action now.

For Nick Mathieson, Anglicare WA Housing Coordinator for the South-West Metro and Peel, communities play an important role. “Homelessness Week is a call to unite communities, advocate for change, and provide support to ensure everyone has a safe and stable place to live. By coming together, we can make a real difference in the lives of those who need it most.”

Mr. Mathieson will be presenting at the Shelter WA Homelessness Week launch on 5 August where he will be showcasing the work being done by Anglicare WA services in the Mandurah, Rockingham, and Kwinana region.  His team will also be attending the Breaking Barriers Business Breakfast on Tuesday 6 August as well as co-facilitating a homelessness event at The Salvation Army Rockingham.

The Advocacy & Strategy Team will also be launching an Advocacy Toolkit during Homelessness Week to equip and empower WA renters to help Make Renting Fair.  They will also run a Workshop on 24 August to train WA renters on how to share their rental stories with decision makers to bring about systems change.
