With Christmas a difficult time for many, Anglicare WA is reminding West Australians they can access free, local, 24/7 advice through the Friend in Need app.
Developed by Anglicare WA, in partnership with other leading mental health and support services, Friend in Need has extensive and easily accessible advice to help you reach out and start conversations with friends or loved ones who are struggling with a range of life events.
The Friend in Need App also features information to source professional help in WA.
Anglicare WA CEO Mark Glasson said Friend in Need was created at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 to help keep communities connected, yet it is needed now more than ever in WA, particularly during the festive season.
“Although - or perhaps because - Christmas is often seen as a time of joy, love and connection, it can be a can be incredibly difficult time for people dealing with tough life challenges or facing mental health struggles," said Mr Glasson.
“We want West Australians to know that help is available. Anyone with a smartphone has access to a free and locally relevant tool to help them look out for each other and their mental health.”
The app is endorsed by WA based organisations including Holyoake, MercyCare, Multicultural Services Centre WA, Ngala, Palmerston, Rise, Sexual Health Quarters (SHQ), Wanslea and Women’s Legal Service WA.
Sourcing professional assistance through the app not only outlines the support available across physical and mental support areas, it also explains the estimated cost of seeking help, the need for a referral, their ability to diagnose or prescribe medication, and where to find them.
The Friend in Need app is available for Apple and Android devices.
