The Anglicare WA Op Shop Ball returned to Perth on Saturday 15 May after a six-year hiatus, with the gala event proving the most successful yet, with nearly 600 guests helping raise over $340,000.

The Op Shop Ball, presented by APM, invited guests to forgo the black tie and ball gowns for ‘op-shop chic’ in tune with the year’s theme: Come Fly with Us. A return to the glory days of international airline travel (of a mere 15 months ago).

The event offered guests an escape from ‘COVID-normal’ for an evening, in aid of an incredibly worthwhile cause: raising much-needed funds for Anglicare WA’s Young Hearts program, which supports children and young people traumatised by family and domestic violence.

Anglicare WA’s Director Philanthropy and Enterprise, Tori Anderson said the success of the return of the Op Shop Ball highlighted the event’s significance in raising both funds and awareness.

“The Op Shop Ball has brought back to Perth a fun, quirky event, where guests can have a great night, raising funds for an important cause,” explained Ms Anderson.

“We were thrilled to have APM join as the naming rights partner, with the global human services and health care organisation having an aligned commitment with Anglicare WA in supporting vulnerable people experiencing hardship.

“The three-year partnership with APM, will provide a solid foundation for this event and a wonderful partnership between the two organisations.”

APM Group CEO Michael Anghie said “APM values its on-going relationship with Anglicare WA. We share very similar values and look forward to continuing our support of Anglicare’s important work in helping vulnerable people throughout the state.”

Ms Anderson said long-term Anglicare WA supporter Austal also openly committed to the Young Hearts program through the Op-Shop Ball.

“Austal has been a long term supporter of Young Hearts and once again pledged an amazing $100,000 to supporting this program.

Austal CEO, Patrick Gregg said “Austal is proud to be able to continue our support of Anglicare WA’s Young Hearts program, which is making a real difference in our local community. We know that our donation is directly funding professional counsellors, that are doing an amazing job to help local families affected by domestic violence.”

Anglicare WA is grateful for the support of all our partners for the Op Shop Ball 2021, presented by APM.
